How to Play

Rules

(Definition: LIVE: A ball that has been thrown and has not touched anything, including the floor/ground, another ball, another player, official or other item outside of the playing field: wall, ceiling, net, etc)

  • If a defender attempts to catch a live ball, but drops it, the defender is out.
  • The defender may block a live ball with another ball. That ball is still a live ball however, until it hits the floor, wall or ceiling.
  • If a blocking ball is dropped as a result of contact from a live ball, then the player who drops the ball is out.
  • A player may block a live ball, then throw the blocking ball down and catch a live ball.
  • A player shall not leave the playing field to avoid being hit or in an attempt to catch a ball.
  • During play, all players must remain within the boundary lines.
  • Players who have been called out may retrieve stray balls for their teammates.
  • It is illegal for the leading team to control all the balls for more then 5 seconds. (A violation will result in the referee stopping play and the balls will be divided evenly.)
  • It is illegal to place a ball over the line to prevent the 5 second penalty. An attempt must be made to get an opposing player out.
  • Headshots resulting from a high thrown ball, result in the thrower being called out.
  • A player hit in the head while ducking or dodging is out.
  • Teams can only make substitutions at the end of each game, or in case of injury.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct will result in immediate ejection from the game.

House Rules

General Rules

A.      Individuals utilizing this facility do so at their own risk. The property owner(s), league operators, officers and owners and staff of Dulles Sportsplex assume no liability for any injuries or accidents, which may occur. Please refer to your Liability and Injury Waiver Release Forms.

B.       Conduct within the facility and on the field should be conducted in the spirit of good sportsmanship.

C.       No food, drinks, chewing tobacco, chewing gum, metal cleats permitted on playing surface. No sunflower seeds or similar type products are permitted in the facility

D.      No glass containers on the field or in the player boxes

E.       Dulles Sportsplex reserves the right to refuse play or service to anyone

F.       Any fighting will result in permanent banishment from facility

Sign Up Guidelines and Fees:

A.      Teams sign up on a first come, first serve basis.

B.       Teams can sign up anytime before session start date. To guarantee your team spot, a $300 non-refundable deposit is required prior to league start date. Deposits will only be refunded if Dulles Sportsplex does not have a league spot available for your team.

C.       Full-payment is required by your first game before you play or your team may not be allowed to participate. 

D.      If full payment is made after the deadline, up to a $50 late fee will be charged if management allows your team to play.

E.       Teams that are currently registered in a league at the Sportsplex may receive discounts from time to time. Any team incurring a forfeiture during a previous session or have incurred late fees because of delinquent payments shall not be eligible for discounts.

F.       No individual will be allowed to participate in any league games, practice session, tournament, clinic, open pick-up game, or other activities until a release form has been properly completed and signed.

G.       Individuals that sign up will be placed in a Dulles Sportsplex database where other teams may contact you to recruit you for their team. If you still are not on a team, the Dulles

Numbered Jerseys:

A.      All players are required to have a shirt with a number on the back. The referee has the right to not start the game until at least 4 players have numbered jerseys. Any player who does not have a numbered jersey will not be allowed to play.

B.       In the event of a color conflict the home team must change jerseys.  Each team's jersey color will be posted on the web site and team captains will be responsible for checking to see if there is a color conflict each week.  In this event the away team must bring an alternate jersey.  Dulles Sportsplex will not be responsible if this policy is not followed.  Failure to bring an alternate jersey will result in a forfeit.  

Player Rosters

A.      Each Team may roster 10 Players. No exceptions

B.       Player rosters must be turned in prior to the first league match. Added players will be permitted prior to the third game. Failure to comply will result in forfeiture of all games played with illegal player(s).

C.       Players may only be added after the 3rd game if a player is injured and removed from the roster for the remainder of the session. Proof of injury must be provided. Acceptable proof shall be a doctor's note. At the discretion of management, a team may claim hardship and add one player after the third game. Any player on a roster that is found to be illegal will forfeit all the games for the team during that season. It is the responsibility of the manager to know which players are legal or illegal. Management reserves the right to check the identifications of any player on a player roster to check and see if they are legal players under management guidelines.

Roster Cards

A.      Permanent Rosters must be turned in by the first game or teams will forfeit all games in which a permanent roster was not on file in the manager's office. This roster must include the names and numbers of every permanent player on your team. The numbers you put on the permanent roster must match the jersey numbers you play with. If a player is not uniformed with the same number on the permanent roster your team may forfeit that game. If a player’s number is different because he forgot his jersey number, that player must inform the referee prior to the game or risk forfeiting that game. Referees will track penalties based upon jersey number and not based upon player’s names. It is the responsibility of each team to ensure that the numbers match the names.

B.       Referees or management may at any time check the names and numbers of players prior to the start of any game or after a game. If a player is caught with a different number than the one on the roster card, that game may be forfeited.  This decision will be at the referee’s discretion.

 

Guest Players

·         Each team may have three guest players per week. All guest players must complete a guest player form located at the front counter. The completed guest player form should be given to the match official before the start of the game.

Official Matches

A.      A match is considered "official" after three completed games of play. If there is an injury or other unforeseen circumstance, the current score will stand as official once two periods have been played.

B.       Each match will consist of seven games.

C.       Each game has a eight minute time limit.

Forfeits & Make-Up Games

A.      Make up games will only be due to in climate weather closings

B.       If a team is unable to play a scheduled game, the opposing team may choose to accept a 3-0 forfeit. The Dulles Sportsplex is not responsible for teams that neglect this rule and fail to notify the opposing team that they are not going to make a scheduled game.

C.       Follow these steps in the event you cannot make a game time.

D.      Forfeits: Teams must call the opposing team to inform them of the forfeit. (Call the Sportsplex for the phone number of the opposing team) The Dulles Sportsplex is not responsible for teams that neglect this rule and fail to notify the opposing team that they are not going to make a scheduled game. If a team shows up to play and the opposing team does not show up, then the team present will win by forfeit. Furthermore, the team that fails to show up for the scheduled game will be charged a forfeit fee which will be passed onto the team that was present for the game as long as the fee is collected.

E.       Failure to do so will result in the game being forfeited. Furthermore if the rescheduling or forfeit procedures are not followed then the offending team will be charged according to the forfeit penalty schedule listed.

Forfeitures/Penalty Schedule:

A.      A team forfeiting a game during any one session will be subject to the following fines:               

a.        First Forfeit- $10 fine

b.       Second Forfeit- $20 fine

c.        Third Forfeit- Termination of team participation from the session and the loss of any re-registration priority.

D.      Fines for forfeitures must be paid prior to a team continuing the session schedule. Forfeiture will be incurred if a team has failed to field the minimum number of players (4 player minimum) within ten minutes from the start of the game clock. Teams incurring forfeitures during a session shall not be eligible for registration discount in the following session.
Any team no show will result in a 3-0 victory for opposing team and no rescheduled game will be given.

Sportsmanship

·         Individuals are expected to play under control and within the rules of the game, and to the best of their ability will avoid causing injury to themselves and other persons using the facility.

 

Penalties / Fighting

A.      The Dulles Sportsplex has ZERO tolerance policy on fighting, and abusive language towards employees, referees, players and patrons.  Crossing this boundary will most certainly lead to and indefinite suspension and possible banishment from the facility upon further review by the Board of Directors.

a.        Dulles Sportsplex has a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY toward fighting. Anyone fighting will be ejected and banned from the facility permanently.  This means that said player cannot participate or spectator at the Sportsplex ever again.

b.       If such an incident occurs a report will be taken to the Board of Directors.  Pending their ruling, all parties involved with be indefinitely suspended from league play and facility use.

B.       All penalties will follow the USA INLINE rule book

a.        Any player who receives a game misconduct will be ejected from the current game.  Pending review by the board that player will serve a one week suspension in which he/she can not participate in any games for that week.

Referees

·         Referees appointed to officiate each game have complete authority on the field of play, and their decisions on points of fact connected with the game are final. Officiating will be monitored and assessed periodically and management will always try to provide quality officiating at the facility. Constructive comments regarding officiating are welcome and encouraged. Please submit any such comments in writing. Complaints regarding officials should be submitted in writing, contain points of fact, and have your name and the name of your team at the top. Teams may not discuss the officiating in a game immediately following their game. Teams may fill out a referee complaint form and turn it over to the commissioner of the league. The commissioner will take seriously all complaints written on a complaint form and turned in 24 hours after a game. The commissioner will not take seriously complaints directed at him immediately following a game, verbal or written. The commissioner will not overturn any calls made by the referee during the course of a game. If a team suspects an illegal player or other illegal activity associated with other team, they should inform the commissioner immediately. If this activity is discovered after the game is completed, the team should file a formal protest to the commissioner. Please read our rules below to understand how to file a formal protest. Do not discuss officiating or the officials with the facility staff during or immediately after your game.

Protesting a Game

·         Intention to file a protest must be noted in writing immediately following the game. A formal written protest with a $20 fee (refundable if upheld), must be submitted to Dulles Sportsplex within 48 hours after the end of a game. The league commissioner will review and have the final authority on all protests. ALL DECISIONS MADE BY THE COMMITTEE ARE FINAL. Only violations of the laws of the game, rules or guidelines of the facility as published are matters for protest. Any protests regarding fielding of illegal players must be brought to the attention of the game officials prior to the suspected player(s) leaving the field of play.

Standings

A.      Teams will receive 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a loss. Tie breakers shall be determined in the following order:

a.        The team with the most points

b.      The winner of any head to head league play

c.       Least Games Lost

d.        Most Games Won

B.       If teams are still tied after the above tiebreakers have been calculated, the Sportsplex will award co-champions.

International Doge Ball Federation

·         The Dulles Sportsplex will follow International Dodge Ball Federation rules for all situations not otherwise covered in the above rules.
